General Description

Three Rivers Business Alliance (3RBA) is a membership-based, business advocacy, IRC 501(c)(6) organization dedicated to cultivating opportunities for people of all genders and sexualities, such as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer, intersex, asexual, pansexual, and allies (LGBTQIA+), by fostering diversity, inclusion, and equity for all.  3RBA is an affiliate chamber of the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) and serves the LGBTQIA+ business community in the Pittsburgh/Greater Allegheny region.

3RBA’s Board of Directors comprises leaders from the nonprofit and for-profit sector who are dedicated to the organization’s mission. Our board members champion the importance of exceptional board leadership and believe that 3RBA needs a strong and effective board to fully realize its goals. In addition to the standard roles and responsibilities of a board member, 3RBA’s board members are active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and are fully engaged in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for 3RBA to grow and advance its mission.

3RBA seeks volunteers to join our Board to help provide oversight, guidance, and support our growth aspirations.  It is an exciting time to join the 3RBA team, as we are seeking to diversify our funding model and expand our portfolio of services.  Ideally, we are seeking a volunteer who has a connection or experience with the LGBTQIA+ community and prior nonprofit board experience or formal board training; however, neither of these is mandatory.

We strongly encourage people of color, transgender, and non-binary people to apply. 3RBA is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes everyone, including non-LGBTQIA+ people, to join our team.

About the Role

3RBA’s Board of Directors is a valued volunteer resource and is vital to the fulfillment of 3RBA’s mission. 3RBA’s Board is responsible to develop and maintain a clear and focused direction for the organization and to find and develop access to financial and other resources to enable 3RBA to accomplish its mission.

Board members are expected to have the financial acumen to read and understand 3RBA’s financial statements and to otherwise help the board fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities.

Board members are expected to attend all board meetings with two excused absences per year. They are expected to read board materials in advance of board meetings and to come prepared to ask questions and participate in discussions.

Board members are expected to serve on one or more committees and to actively participate in committee work.

Board members are expected to play an active role in securing the financial resources necessary for 3RBA to achieve its mission and goals. Board members are expected to leverage personal relationships and connections to help the development committee and staff identify and solicit potential funders, as well as directly invest in 3RBA by raising at least One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) each calendar year of their three-year term.

Board members are expected to responsibly represent 3RBA to their respective communities and to advocate for 3RBA’s mission, programs, and services as appropriate.

Board terms last for three years, and board members can serve for up to two consecutive terms.
